I know that this has nothing to do with sports or music or whatever, but this is something that is dear to my heart. It is sad to say that parents are sending their kids to school thinking that it is safe but then not knowing if they are coming home safe or even alive.
In the past week, Miami has had multiple incidents in which kids are bringing weapons to school. So far about 8-9 students have been arrested so far. Sadly one student has died and another in stable condition.
Here is some stories:
In a high school on Tuesday, two students 17 year-old Juan Carlos Rivera and 17 year-old Andy Rodriguez, got into an altercation which led to a fight, which then led into a fight. During the fight, Rodriguez pulled out a knife and stabbed Rivera 3 times; 1 in the upper back, 1 in his chest, and 1 to the kidneys. After Rodriguez ran off leaving Rivera on floor to die. Sadly many kids were out there just seeing him die slowly and painfully. You want to know why they fought, for a girl. The saddest thing is that Rivera came to America 5 months ago and living with his grandmother and uncle. His mother had to fight with the government in Cuba to allow her to come here and bury her own son. A mother has not seen her son in 5 months and now the last she will see him is dead.
On Thursday, police has cracked down on 7 different schools arresting kids with guns, knives, and tazers, but don't think it's only high school, no middle school students, even elementary.
On Friday, shots were fired at another high school in a bathroom. This one was more scary just because I was there. When a teacher went to the restroom to see what had happened, he found the gun and accidentally shot another round. The sad part of it all is that, the cops still do not know who it was. But not only did they find one gun, they found two. Two guns and not knowing who they belong to or why were they brought to school.
Last but not least, also on Friday, two middle school kids got into a fight at a park for I don't know what reason, and one pulled out a very very large knife. Did I mention they are only 12 year-old and 13 year-old boys. The 12 year-old pulls out a knife and stabs the 13 year-old in the back and also injuring himself with it. The poor boy was airlifted to the hospital with the knife still stuck to his back. Luckily the boy is in stable condition. The sad thing in this is that a little boy will be charged with attempted murder.
Kids are losing there futures each and everyday, either by going to jail or by getting killed. The thing about it is that you can't blame the schools or the parents, because if a child wants to carry a weapon they will. I blame whom ever is giving these kids these weapons. But, you can blame the parents if they are leaving their weapons out in the open for they kids to just go out and take it. The sad thing about it is that this is not over yet in Miami, I guarantee you that.
R.I.P Juan Carlos Rivera...you will truly be missed :(
