Last night the NBA Hall of Fame took place. the people who were inducted were of Michael Jordan, David Robinson, John Stockton, Jerry Sloan, and C. Vivian Stringer. Here is a little history on each person if you don't know:
Michael Jordan, as what people would call him, the BEST PLAYER TO EVER PLAY THE GAME. He has 6 rings with the Chicago Bulls, but to me that's not what makes it so interesting. He won the first 3 in a row from 1991-1993. He than retired when his father passed away in 1994. After 18 months being retired, he came back to Chicago and won 3 more titles in a row from 1995-1998; all of those Finals, he was Finals MVP.. He then retired for a second time in 1999, and came back in 2003 as a Washington Wizards, and was still good. During his career, he has 32,292 points, 6,672 rebounds, and 5,633 assists. He was also NBA MVP for 5 years in 1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, and in 1998. He won the Slam Dunk Contest twice in 1987 and 1989. Need anymore cause I can go all day.
David Robinson, nicknamed 'The Admirable', was drafted to the San Antonio Spurs in 1989, helping them become one the greatest teams in the NBA. He had 20, 790 points, 10,497 rebounds, and 2,954 blocks. He helped the Spurs win two NBA Finals in 1999 and 2003 and was league MVP in 2005. He also has been in the All-Star Game 10 times in 1990-1996, 1998, and 2000-2001. Not only was he good in the NBA, but in college he won Naismith College Player of the Year and the John R. Wooden Award in 1987.
John Stockton holds the career for most assists at 15,806 also the most career steals at 3,265. He also has been a 10 time NBA All-Star from 1989-1997 and 2000. He has been in the NBA Finals with the Utah Jazz but came up too short to the Chicago Bulls. His best career highlights came during game 6 in the Western Conference Finals in 1997. Stockton scored the last 9 points for the Jazz, and the buzzer-beating 3 point over Charles Barkley to send the Jazz to the first of two consecutive NBA Finals appearances.
* Did I mention Jordan, Robinson, and Stockton were all part of the Dream Team in the US Olympics.
Jerry Sloan, not only did he coach, but he played in the NBA. While playing, he finished with 10,571 points, 5,615 rebounds, and 1,925 assists. As a coach, he has 1137-751 record (as of the end of the 2008-2009 NBA season), making him the fourth all-time most-winning NBA coach. From his 1137 win, he collected the 1,000Th win against the Dallas Mavericks on December 11, 2006, beating them to 101-79. He is the only coach in NBA history to record 1,000 wins with the same team. He first coached the Chicago Bulls from 1979-1982 and now the Utah Jazz from 1988- continuing.
C. Vivian Stringer is the first coach in NCAA history to lead three different women's programs to the NCAA Final Four; Cheyney University of Pennsylvania in 1982, University of Iowa in 1993, and Rutgers in 2000 and 2007. She is the third winning est coach in women's basketball history. She was honored as the Naismith College Coach of the Year for women's basketball in 1993 and is also part of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
After thinking about everything and this year being such a great induction, I was wondering about the future Hall of Farmer's. Here is a list of all the players that should be inducted; Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, Alonzo Mourning, Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Shaquille O'Neal, Steve Nash. Also players that if continue to improve should also be in the Hall of Fame; LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Amar'e Stoudemire, Mario Chalmers, Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, Joe Johnson, Allen Iverson, Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis. Can't wait to see who will be inducted in the Hall of Fame next year. :)
